Outstanding size A stand of approximately fifty Mountain Ash (Eucalyptus regnans) growing on steep land to the east of the Barham River West Branch.The trees are even in size; many with a circumference of 10-12m.The understorey is very dense although the tops of all the trees have been lost in storms and exhibit large dead branches at the top of the crown. Outstanding size The stand includes the tallest known tree in Victoria (The Big Tree) and is located near the old Cambarville Mill in the Cumberland Valley. As the area escaped the 1939 fires, it contains one of the few remaining virgin stands of Mountain Ash in Victoria. Outstanding size A magnificent Eucalyptus regnans (Mountain Ash), known as the Ada Tree, growing in isolation along a small gully dominated by Nothofagus cunninghamii (Myrtle Beech). Contribution to the landscape This is the only specimen of Mountain Ash (Eucalyptus regnans) in a stand of approximately 40 Eucalypts. The tree is particularly old and unusual for that part of the Shire. Particularly old. Outstanding size A outstanding specimen that survived the 1939 bushfires. Many other examples of the species in this valley have trunk circumferences of 11 to 12 metres so this tree appears to be the largest in the area. Curious growth form 'The Kalatha Giant' is approximately 400 years old, and is currently one of the largest living trees in Victoria. It bears a very old fire scar at its heavily buttressed base ( possibly from 1851 fires) and is hollow all the way up its trunk to where the top is broken off. This large Mountain ash is located in Powelltown 60m west off Big Bertha Track, 1km down from Blacksands Road in wattle scrub. It has a huge fire scar on one side of the trunk.
